Reduced to Clear – Christmas Trees

We have a few mosaic Christmas trees left over from the Art & Craft + Handmade Festive Fair (more on that soon). To clear them out before our Christmas and New Year break we have reduced them from £15 to £10.

These one of a kind items would be a great addition to anyone’s festive decorations.

If you’d like one, you can give us a call on 01524 846509, send us an e-mail at fragmentsproject@gmail.com or drop in to see us Monday-Friday before the 22nd of December at The Cornerstone on Sulyard Street in Lancaster.

Specialty Signs.

Although house signs are our main trade here at Fragments, we’re also happy to make special purpose signs for the workplace or public buildings.

For example, we have made several signs for use around The Cornerstone where we’re based. In the entrance way you’ll find a welcome sign and by the Cornerstone Cafe’s serving hatch is a large cafe sign. Also on display in The Cornerstone is the Ichthys, or fish symbol we made for Lancaster Methodist Church.

If you would like to order a specialty sign, get in touch with us for a quote. Our details are on the ‘Contact Us’ page above.

August Workshop Day

On Friday the 19th of August Fragments held its first public workshop day. There was a small turnout from the public but we managed to get a full showing from all the Fragments project members so there was plenty of help and support for the attendees.

We’re quite happy with how the day went and appreciate the valuable experience we’ve gained from running an event for the public that we can put to good use in the future. Watch this space for more event announcements in the coming months.

Our guests were kind enough to allow us to take some photos of the event.

We would also like to extend a big thank you to the Lancaster branch of Cooperative Funeral Care for providing tea, coffee and biscuits for the day.

Upcoming Event – Mosaic Sign Workshop

We’ll be holding the workshop at The Cornerstone in Lancaster from 10am until 4pm on Friday the 19th of August. The cost will be £30, this will cover both time and materials.

At the end of the day you’ll get to take home your own house sign just like the ones we make for our customers. If you don’t manage to finish, don’t worry! We’ll finish it off for you at no additional cost.

Places are very limited so make sure you book early to avoid disappointment. You can book your place in person by coming in to see us at The Cornerstone or by phone, post or e-mail at the addresses listed below.

Thumbprint Open Day

This Friday, the 8th of July, Fragments’ parent charity, Thumbprint, will be holding an open day at The Cornerstone in Lancaster.

Come to The Cornerstone between 10am and 4pm to learn more about the work Thumbprint does to support adults with learning difficulties to set up and run their own social enterprise projects. You’ll be able to meet members of all our various projects, including Fragments, see a mosaic being made and take a look at what we’ve been working on for the past few weeks. A cafe sign which was made with the help of members of the local community who visit The Cornerstone on a Tuesday.

The Cornerstone is on the corner of Sulyard Street and Friar Street in Lancaster, off Dalton Square, just round the corner from The Borough. You can’t miss it, look for the building on the corner with the big white cross on it.

Trial Workshop Day

On Friday the 10th of June, Fragments held a small workshop day to investigate the possibility of running workshops and open days for the public in the future. Our aim was to get some experience of running workshops before opening them up to paying customers.

Overall it was quite a successful day in a number of respects. We managed to learn some important lessons which we can put into practice in the future, came up with some ideas that we can use as the basis of future workshops and just as importantly, we enjoyed ourselves.

We don’t have any set plans for running any public workshops as yet but they will be announced on here as well as in our other promotional material as soon as we set a date.

Fragments at the Scarecrow Festival

The Wray Scarecrow Festival was held on the 23rd of April and we decided to give our project a bit of a boost by running our own stall to promote our products. After a brief struggle against the wind we managed to get our tent and our scarecrow set up (in a manner of speaking).

We brought a selection of products to display and inside the tent some of our volunteers worked on a large plant-pot which will be a showpiece at future displays.

Overall we were pleased with the reaction we received from those who stopped by to see us. We managed to hand out all of our leaflets and even a couple of order forms, one of which has come back to us filled out. It was also a pleasant surprise to hear people say they had read about us in the Lancaster Guardian.

We hope to take part in more events like this in the future and apply the lessons we’ve learned from Wray to really make the most of the opportunities they provide.

Round Table Funding

The new financial year started last month and we managed to get things off to a flying start with some generous funding from Lancaster Round Table. We were presented with a cheque for £3500 at the annual Lancaster Round Table Beer Festival.

This award will go a long way towards covering Fragments’ total support costs for the coming year and was much greater than anyone expected.  We were so pleased with our funding that we decided to run a press release which was published by the Lancaster Guardian.

However, as generous and substantial as the award from Lancaster Round Table is, we still need additional funds to cover our support for the rest of the year and to fulfil our goal of running Fragments over 2 days each week. If you feel you could help us achieve this goal, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
